Oppose Mike Mulvaney for Office of Management and Budget Director

SAMPLE DIALOG

Caller: Good morning/afternoon! Can you let me know the Senator’s position on the nomination of Representative Mike Mulvaney for OMB Director?

OPTION 1: HAS STATED SUPPORT FOR THE NOMINATION OR HAS NOT TAKEN A POSITION

  • Staffer: Thank you for calling! Senator Bob supports the nomination of Mike Mulvaney to become OMB Director OR has not yet decided whether to support or oppose Mike Mulvaney’s nomination.

    Caller: That’s unacceptable.

Mike Mulvaney has taken extremist positions on critical and popular social support programs like social security and Medicare. He also supports defunding Planned Parenthood. Mulvaney’s record as a leader of the House Freedom Caucus indicates that he is anti government extremist who will oppose government spending no matter how much our well being or security depend on it.

Staffer: Cabinet appointments are at the discretion of the president, and Senator Bob respects that tradition.  Senator Bob believes it is high time that President Trump’s nominees were in place.

Caller: In addition to his record of pushing to defund the programs seniors and other vulnerable Americans rely on, Mulvaney has shown recklessness in budget negotiations, and was very willing to shut down the government in 2013.  He is the last person who should be running the Office of Budget and Management.

Will Senator Bob commit to voting no on the confirmation of Mike Mulvaney?

Staffer: I will certainly pass on your concerns to the Senator.

Caller: Thank you. I will be watching to see what the Senator does on this issue.

OPTION 2: HAS STATED OPPOSITION TO THE NOMINATION

  • Staffer: Thank you for calling! Senator Bob opposes the nomination of Mike Mulvaney for OMB Director.

Caller: That’s great! I’m calling to say that if Senator Bob shares my belief that Mike Mulvaney is unfit to serve in this important position then he should continue to fight to protect the critical social spending programs that millions and millions of Americans rely on each month.
